Thanksgiving Day – is a time to spend with family, and to reflect upon our lives and lend appreciation to our nation’s humble beginnings. How far this country has become!
The Pilgrim's persistence, fortitude and ingenuity birthed many aspects of our modern capitalistic way of life. They pioneered bartering and trading methods among other settlers (Europeans and native tribes alike) in a land that would eventually be called the United States. But behind the celebration of all their accomplishments, their 'good increase', their search being over, the First Thanksgiving feast is solely a special manner of rejoice and praise for God who had dealt with favorably on their faith and perseverance! [As an aside, well, the turkey, was at the center of the feast, as it was the fowl of choice, and a means to be festive and to gather all families to celebrate a sweeping bountiful harvest. Lucky turkeys. They symbolize so much!]
I love Thanksgiving. This is why I took the time to write. It reminds me of life's greatest secrets to success. Persistency and consistency, having a goal, possessing grit, knowing what you want, and working for it and having a vision of and getting to the end. Most of all, celebrating your success! The lack of all these is the greatest stealer of progress. The Pilgrims and Puritans had it all down. And to circle it all, they realized, as we have to timelessly realize, theirs and our "harvests" being "gotten in" is a “thanksgiving” to God for His special providence. Then and now, it was and it should still be, a day of prayer and pious humiliation, thanking God for making all things possible.
Happy Thanksgiving festivities to all!
